Siamese cats are the favorite pets for people whishing to get a companion they can show off with. This breed originates in Siam, which is Thailand today. They were the pets of the royal family and were brought from Great Britain to the United States in the late 19th century.
The Siamese cats have a very elegant appearance. They have light colored bodies with darker areas on their legs, tail and face. There are many colors the Siamese cats can have. But the dark spots on the tips of Siamese cats, which are called “points”, are darker than the color of their body. Siamese cats always have blue eyes. The interesting thing about kittens in this breed is that they are completely white when they are born. They get the Siamese cats’ specific body color only after a week or even two into life. As a Siamese cat ages, the points become less pronounced as the body darkens a bit in color.
The hair of the Siamese cats can be either short or long and their bodies are very muscular. Their legs and tails match the long, slender body to make for a very sleek look for this breed of cats. Siamese cats have very triangular faces, so their ears look larger than those of other cats.
These cats are very intelligent, so that they can even learn to walk on a leash or play fetching games. They have the most lovable intent to please their owners, to such a point that they are much like dogs than like cats in what their personality is concerned. Siamese cats bond very strongly to their people and do not do well when left alone for a long time.
The health problems are mostly due to some genetic flaws, that some Siamese cats inherit. Strabismus can make the cat cross-eyed, but there are no other problems associated with it. Other cats might have a bent tailbone, which causes them a permanent kink in the tail. Another thing about their health is the fact that Siamese cats often get hereditary heart disease that weakens the valves of their hearts, but this is not an issue until later in life.
Some Siamese cats will attach themselves very strongly to one person and not think much of everyone else around. This is the reason why Siamese cats do not like to have other cats surrounding them in their home. They are very territorial and possessive towards their owner!

Arthritic cats do not usually like walking up and down stairs, either because it's painful or because they just do not have the strength for it.You may want to put a carpeted ramp next to the staircase so that your cat can more easily walk up and down the steps.
Window Sills and Other High Places
Put carpeted ramps underneath window sills and leading up to your bed (if your cat has been in the habit of sleeping with you) and the couch, so your lame or arthritic cat can still get up there to rest. "Your cat's still going to want to try to go there," notes feline behavior expert, Myrna Milani, DVM. "It's better to help the cat get up there safely, rather than try to block off the area with obstacles and have the cat get hurt even worse trying to get through there." You can also put pillows and rugs under the window sills to serve as crash-mats in case the cat does fall.
Arranging the Furniture
If your cat has vision problems, keep your furniture in the same place and don't leave obstacles (such as boxes or shopping bags) in unexpected places where she could walk into them. If your cat is prone to bumping into furniture, try padding table and chair legs with cushions or foam to reduce impact damage.
Doors
Sometimes a door will be slightly ajar and a blind cat will go behind the door and find herself stuck between the door and the wall. This can be a very scary situation for the cat. To prevent this, Milani suggests you spray some cologne or unscented deodorant about cat-head high on the door jams, on the side with the hinges, to deter the cat from going behind the door.
Litter Boxes
Make sure your cat has easy access to all litter boxes. A disabled cat may need several boxes, so it's never a long, difficult trip to the box no matter where she is in the house. "Don't expect an arthritic or lame cat to climb stairs to get to a litter box ," Howl says. You might want to cut out a section on one side of the litter box so that cat does not have to step over the side of the box to get in.
Other Pets
If you have other dogs or small children, provide safe areas which your handicapped cat can escape when play gets too boisterous or aggressive. One way to do this is by putting a baby gate or plywood blockade in front of a doorway to keep dogs and children out of the room the disabled cats in. I am convinced my cat is allergic to me. If I was spending money on him, that was OK. If I was feeding him, that was OK, if I was making him comfy and tickling him under his chin, that was OK but if I expected him to show me any affection he had this allergy towards me. Remember, cats don’t have owners, cats own humans. One of the problems is that many humans who are owned by cats have allergies to them. This happened with Tigger and my wife who I originally got Tigger for but he adopted me and became my owner.
It wasn’t long after we had brought Tigger home that my wife developed a wheeziness when breathing. She went to see the doctor and after a quick examination he asked if we had a pet. That was it, he then explained about the skin of cats and how they shed particles of dead skin constantly, (as do humans), but my wife was breathing this in. It caused her to have to use an inhaler to help her breathing.
So what is the problem, well cats shed their dead skin and this gets into furniture, carpets and our bedding. When we walk through it, it stirs itself up as tiny dust particles and if a person is allergic to cats it gets breathed in and causes problems for humans. All cats produce these allergy causing compounds and not only is it found in dead skin but oil producing glands on your cat produce a protein allergen which also causes the problem. It is worse in male cats but female cats and cats, which have been neutered, are not as bad as an un-neutered male cat.
What can you do about it? Well you could get rid of your cat but I don’t hold with that but it may be best for you but please please make sure you re-home your cat to a good home where it will be well loved. Do not ever just dump it. You would not dump a child and your pet is like a child to you. Treat it as one. You could just accept you will have to use medication for the rest of your cat’s life or you could try a simple remedy.
You may find that your breathing is worse when you lie down in bed and sleep with your cat. If this is the case try banishing your cat from his bedroom. Take control again. It will not be nice as your cat will keep meowing outside his room and scratching at the door trying to get in but this method does work and after a few weeks he or she will be happy to sleep elsewhere. Try getting your cat its own bed and put this somewhere away from your bedroom.
You have to be tough with this and if you have slept with your cat it is hard, but you have to remember your health is important. Your cat will not be bothered about your health but you need to be.
Do not think about this, just do it. It is better that having to re-home your cat, just think of the distress it will go through not seeing you again and having to adapt to a new family.Your cat is very important but so is your health. Just remember this information should you need to, even though it may not be nice to hear. Your cat is very important but so are you and others in the house.
