Cat House Training

Despite what you may think cat house training is not as difficult as it sounds. How do you get your cat to use the new litter box you just purchased? You ave the box filled with a good variety litter, you have you trusty pooper scooper in hand and want to see what your cat does.

If you stand there and expect your cat to do their business in front of you then you could be waiting a very long time. You see cats are very clean animals and like to do their business in private, in sand or dirt or any substance that they can use their paws to cover up their waste.

Strange as it may seem, but if a cat could close a door and lock it, they would before doing their business. So you must place a litter box somewhere that is easily accessible by your cat and out heavy traffic areas. In a corner of a room that is not used much would serve your cats needs well.

Once you find the spot you will be using for the litter box, the next step is to place your cat in it. They will know what to do, your job will be to keep the litter box clean. Using clumping litter will make this easy. Both you and your cat will love this.

Keep the litter box clean by scooping out the faeces and urine daily, then on a regular basis change the contents of the entire box. You will see your cat using the litter box more often. If you have one cat its a good idea to have two litter boxes, two cats, three litter boxes and so on.

If you’ve done all of this but you discover your cat doesn’t like to use his box, then you need to consult your veterinarian. Remember cats are very clean animals. They don’t need too much house training. If your cat is suddenly refusing to use her box, she may have some medical problems that you can’t see.

A common reason for cats not using the litter box is stress. Yes, cats do get stressed out. Have you brought a new cat or kitten into the house? That could cause your cat some stress. If you go on vacation and leave her alone, even if you’ve had someone looking after her, she could be stressed. Even a new piece of furniture (believe it or not) can cause her stress.
